Hawaii looking at P3 opportunities

The Hawaii State speaker has called on its lawmakers to do more to boost the use of P3s in the state. Speaking on the opening day of the 28th Hawaii State Legislature, Speaker Joseph Souki said more should be done to form new partnerships, particularly in the area of transport and renewable energy. "It behooves us to study this opportunity carefully and look at legislation for this and other potential partnerships," he said. Souki also mentioned Maui Memorial and the Hawaii Pacific Health Center, which are currently looking at a P3 that could improve healthcare on Maui and generate savings for taxpayers. There are already opportunities for organizations in Maui to explore innovative solutions to healthcare improvements, under Act 182 adopted in 2009.
