The government of Kenya has chosen the lead transaction adviser for its Nyali Bridge PPP project.
Deloitte Consulting has been chosen as the lead adviser for the project, working alongside Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India. It is the first PPP bridge deal in Kenya since the enactment of the Public Private Partnership Act 2013.
The project is being built near Mombasa through a design, build, finance, maintain and operate contract.
Under this deal announced by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority, the two firms, in partnership with a consortium, will conduct a feasibility study, due diligence and transaction management.
They will also provide project assistance until financial close, including marketing it to private developers and investors. They will also be responsible for the bidding and evaluation of contractors.
Dr Mark Smith, Deloitte Consulting partner and head of infrastructure & capital projects for East Africa, said: "We are delighted for the opportunity to be part of this groundbreaking transaction that is not only historical but will also drive economic transformation. This new bridge will ease congestion and is paramount to drive the economic growth of the entire East African region since the Port of Mombasa is an important gateway into the region."
